6 Things House Did Better Than Other Medical Dramas - Screen Rant
Summary
- House M.D. defies medical drama norms by elevating character complexity and audience engagement.
- Hugh Laurie's portrayal of Dr. House, along with impeccable writing, adds depth to the show.
- Interpersonal relationships, character growth, humor, drama, and mystery elements make House exceptional.
House M.D. is completely singular and unique as a show, despite sharing much in common with other medical drama shows. House may have faded to black in its final season in 2012, but the show continues to stand out and rank as one of the most watched and beloved shows more than 10 years later (via Screen Rant). On the surface, it may not be clear what is so unique and appealing about House to warrant such a dedicated fanbase, but anyone who has watched the show and grown to love the imperfect characters will likely understand.
House is not the average medical drama show, with a new case to solve each week, although, it does have that. Nor is it the typical sitcom medical show where doctors and peers form romantic relationships and get into awkward relationships, but it has that too. The thing with House is that it takes the whole of what makes each of the other medical shows special, and it turns everything up to 11. From the writing to the casting, and the spectacular stories that play out each week, House was different, and viewers old and new recognize that.
