It's about ordinary people dealing with real, relatable problems, tragedies, joys, and relationships. It's also been nominated for nearly 40 Emmy Awards, with four big wins. It's one of the most lauded shows in modern network TV history, and if you're prepared for a lot of tearful scenes and heavy emotional storylines, you just may fall in love with it. "This is Us" thrives on the merit of its characters and their relationships. At the core it's about three adult siblings, played by Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, and Sterling K. Brown. Those central protagonists are surrounded by a huge ensemble of talented costars, including Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan, and Ron Cephas Jones. 61 Nostalgic Teen Shows to Watch Over and Over Again - POPSUGAR

Image
Over the decades, viewers have seen as many different ways to depict teenage life on the small screen as there are actual teenage experiences off-screen. We've seen wholesome family-oriented comedies, glossy dramas full of scandal, shows that tackle tough topics without flinching, and so much more. The one thing that ties all these high school TV shows together — and makes them so watchable — is how they treat this awkward, difficult, change-filled time of life with real heart, humor, and sensitivity. Regardless of what some shows might have you think, being a teenager isn't easy for anyone. It's a time when you're just starting to figure out who you are, what (and who) you like, and what you might want for your future. The teenage years are where independence and childhood bump up against each other as everyone struggles to transition into more responsibility and bigger decisions, so it's easy to see why they're such rich territory for storytelling. Perhaps...

‘The Serpent’: TV Review - Hollywood Reporter

Image
For the second season of FX's American Crime Story franchise, Tom Rob Smith used a reverse-chronological structure to trace Andrew Cunanan's  Talented Mr. Ripley -style journey from con artist with identity issues to road-tripping murderer. It was a framing device that didn't always feel organic, but it yielded unexpected emotional rewards as the series progressed, aided tremendously by Darren Criss' lacerating performance. It's impossible to know if writer Richard Warlow took inspiration from The Assassination of Gianni Versace ; maybe it's a complete coincidence that he approached the menacing tale of '70s serial killer Charles Sobhraj as a Talented Mr. Ripley -esque saga about an identity-conflicted con man, complete with a fractured timeline. In this case, Warlow's eight-part Netflix/BBC One drama The Serpent ends up being an infuriating blueprint for how bad storytelling choices, bad accents and an opaque central performance can thwart ...

9 Crime Shows and Legal Dramas Like Law & Order You Should Watch Next - TV Guide

Image
NBC That clanging you hear in the distance is the sound of  Law & Order  making its grand return to television. Almost 12 years after it signed off, the Dick Wolf procedural that started it all is back for Season 21, airing Thursdays on NBC. It's an exciting time to be a Law & Order fan, whether your loyalty lies with the flagship series, you named your pet after  SVU 's Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), or you never miss Stabler's (Christopher Meloni) adventures on  Law & Order: Organized Crime  — or all three. We live in a world where we can watch Benson and Stabler rekindle their chemistry at the same time original Law & Order favorites are returning to the courtroom. Plus, it's practically a law that at least one episode from a show in the L&O universe has to be airing on TV at all times (trust us). If, however, you're in the market for something new to watch but still ...

New British TV Series for 2022: BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky Dramas, Britbox & More - Den of Geek

This Is Going To Hurt (February) Everybody should read Adam Kay's excruciating but brilliant and moving memoir of his time as a junior doctor, then they should immediately buy a copy for a friend. The BBC Two adaptation, written by Kay (he left medicine for comedy writing years ago) and starring Ben Whishaw and Ambika Mod, is even better than the book and a must-see (though perhaps not if you're due to give birth in the near future).    Tom Jones (tbc) Praise for 2018's  Vanity Fair  adaptation, scheduled opposite  Bodyguard  in 2018, was drowned out somewhat by the hit political thriller, but there was plenty of it, and deservingly so. Good news then, that ITV has brought screenwriter Gwyneth Hughes back to tackle another classic novel – Henry Fielding's 1749 book  Tom Jones . Filming started in November 2021 in Northern Ireland, with a cas...

How the Mac can help untangle the USB-C cable conundrum - Macworld

Image
Skip to content IDG A cable with a USB-C plug at one or both ends often reveals little about what it's capable of doing. Despite guidelines for labeling set by the USB-IF (the USB trade group) and Intel's Thunderbolt division, you can wind up with multiple USB and Thunderbolt cables and adapters without a great idea of what they do. USB 2.0 and 3.0's Type-A connector and Thunderbolt 1 and 2's Mini DisplayPort-like plug offered fewer options. The biggest difference was between USB 2.0 and 3.0—but you could quickly tell if your hard drive was constrained to the 480 Mbps speed of USB 2 or operating under the higher 5 Gbps overhead of 3.0. But with USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 (and now Thunderbolt/USB 4), it's more confusing since they use the same connector. Just look at the following illustration...
