First meeting held to discuss redevelopment of Hillcrest community - WWAY NewsChannel 3

Image
17 hours ago WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Residents of a public housing complex in Wilmington are learning more about the future of their community. In June 2021, the Wilmington Housing Authority put out a request for applications to redevelop the Hillcrest community on Dawson Street. The housing authority hosted a meeting on Monday afternoon in the Hillcrest Community Center to introduce residents to developers Related Urban and TedCo. Tyrone Garrett, executive director of WHA, explains the project is about revitalizing the community. If residents want to return, Garrett says they will be able to do that no matter what and their rent will not change — remaining at 30 percent of their income. "You want the residents to know what's going on, you want them to be fully informed and you want them to participate because we don't want to build a new community and not include the residents in the whole entire process as we move...

6 Best Korean Dramas on Netflix, Viki for Newbies - Paste Magazine

Korean dramas aren't new, but their global popularity has become more diverse and widespread in the U.S. in the last few years. Netflix has properly gotten into the K-drama game, joining existing streaming Viki as an easy streaming access point for American viewers interested in Korean content. Foreign-language media can be a big ask for some viewers, especially those who have less experience getting over that "one-inch barrier," as Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-Ho famously referred to subtitles during his Oscar acceptance speech for Parasite . Don't fear. I'm here to help. If you've never watched a K-drama before—or maybe if you've only ever watched Squid Game —here are a few gateway dramas to try as your entry into the rich world of Korean storytelling. Fantasy Romance: Goblin Watch on VIKI Honestly, "fantasy romance" is a relatively competitive c...

Do Weather Changes Make Pain From Injuries Worse? - The New York Times

Image
Q: Why do old injuries hurt more when the weather changes? There are plenty of reasons to dislike chilly, wet weather, including its potential effects on our bodies. People often complain that pain from old injuries, such as broken bones or sprains, and from chronic conditions like arthritis, flares up when it's cold or raining. Hippocrates made similar grumbles some 2,500 years ago. "It's certainly something that I have observed in my own patients," Dr. Jennifer Moriatis Wolf, a professor of orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation at the University of Chicago Medicine, said. "Patients say, 'I can tell when it's going to rain. I can tell when it's going to snow.'" While doctors agree that such complaints are common, the reasons behind the phenomenon remain unclear. Little research has been conducted on the issue, and some of the studies that do exist have led to confusing and contradictory conclusions. Other studies, however, seem to suggest t...

More rain expected in Long Beach on New Year's Eve and through ... - Long Beach Post

Image
The overnight showers prompted the city to offer sandbags for residents in low-lying areas like the Peninsula and Alamitos Bay, but no major flooding was reported. Skies are expected to be clearer today, but more rain is coming, with heavy storms possible on New Year's Eve, according to the National Weather Service. Light showers are possible Thursday and Friday across the region, with heavy rain storms rolling in on Saturday. Forecasters say Long Beach could get up to an eighth of an inch of precipitation in that period. New Year's Day, however, is shaping up to be mostly sunny in the afternoon, with a slight chance of showers in the morning. The long-term forecast for Southern California indicates that Pasadena's 138th Rose Parade will narrowly dodge stormy weather thanks to its tradition of holding the event on Jan. 2 when New Year's Day falls on a Sunday. Rain will return next week, forecasters said, with a chance of storms in Long Beach starting Monday al...

In the series 10 finale of the show, Martin and his wife Louisa opted out of moving to London from Cornwall, much to the delight of everyone in the village. However, it seems there may be some surprises in store for the viewers during the Christmas special. Ahead of the exciting premiere, we decided to take a look at leading actor and Wimbledon-born star Martin Clunes' life off-screen. Much like his character, Martin Clunes lives outside of the busy city in a countryside with his TV producer wife, grown-up daughter and their various pets.
