Republican House leaders have released their initial budget proposal. Senate leadership is expected to release its budget proposal in May, and the budget process will likely continue through the summer before North Carolinians see a final state budget. But for now, the House proposal serves as a window into Republicans' education priorities, both in terms of state funding as well as policy measures that may get wrapped into the final budget bill. The North Carolina Association of Educators gave the budget proposal mixed reviews in a statement released today. The NTT IndyCar Series will head to Texas Motor Speedway this weekend for its first oval race of the season and a preview of its biggest race. After Sunday's PPG 375 at Texas, the next oval on the schedule is May 28 with the 107th running of the Indy 500. Chip Ganassi Racing dominated last year's 500-miler at Indianapolis Motor Speedway after placing all four of its Dallara-Hondas in the top 10 at Texas. The Dallara-Chevrolets of Team Penske also will be heavy favorites at Texas. We've covered a lot of sketchy USB devices over the years. And surely you know by now, if you find a USB drive, don't plug it in to your computer. There's more that could go wrong than just a malicious executable. We've covered creative and destructive ideas here on Hackaday, from creative firmware to capacitors that fry a machine when plugged in. But what happened to a handful of Ecuadorian journalists was quite the surprise. These drives went out with a bang. That is, they literally exploded. The drives each reportedly contained a pellet of RDX, a popular explosive in use by militaries since the second World War. There have been five of these hyperactive USB devices located so far, and only one actually detonated. It seems that one only managed to trigger half of its RDX payload.
